Cap City Pop’s Statement on Generative AI
As a small member of the global music community, Cap City Pop was created as a place to celebrate the art, the artist, and the community.
While generative AI can accomplish a lot for humanity; the use of generative AI for art, music and other creative work both devalues the art, and the artist. As this landscape rapidly changes we encourage you, a music and vinyl fan, to read about the impact of generative AI and its use of music and art to train data models (suggested reading at bottom).
Let’s discuss our new Cap City Pop policies on the use of AI both in the store, and content we create:
- All music featured in store is created by human artists, and human song-writers.
- All art in store is human created.
- Photos and images used have been vetted for authenticity and/or taken from physical items we have/have had in store.
- Research, discovery and history about music/vinyl is human powered.
- All writing is human created and written, but we do edit, spellcheck and correct with an on device/sandboxed AI system (we are both pretty wordy😅)
- Playlists and store recommendations are human made, with thought, planned and curated.
As it gets harder to parse through the amount of AI generated music, art and photos, Cap City Pop remains diligent and committed in keeping and showcasing the true sounds, culture and art from the Shōwa period in Japan.
We encourage you, and the community to do the same.
Thanks,
Audra & Trin
